The definition of an influencer is a person with the ability to influence potential buyers of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media. Companies use people of certain social status to talk about or use their products and share it with their followers on multiple social media platforms in order to gain a larger customer base. The tactic of using influencers is a major gain for companies because social media is an important part of their customers daily lives.
Influencers have a natural skill to gain followers from their community & are considered as trustworthy because they have built their following and connections over time. Companies/ brands see that these influencers have a strong sway of opinion on the community and can recognize the benefits of having them promote their products. Influencers have such a strong and loyal following because the seem is be likable, relatable, and down to earth. Influencers are able to engage in friendly conversations with customers are a show a real life experience with the products they are promoting.
The job of a influencers for companies and products is very flexible. Influencers can be "paid" in different ways through shoutouts, exposure, money, or other ways. It is important to have influencers for you product, company, or brand that is a person related to your audience or brands identity. It is also important to have influences promoting your product/ brand that aligns with the company and is an organic influencers that will actually be a customer for that product not just a fake influence. The company and the influencer should have a mutually benefiting relationship where both parties have equal gain.
An example of an influencer is YouTuber, Danielle Carolan. She has a large following with well over 500 thousand subscribers on YouTube, over 200k followers on Instagram and over 100k followers on Twitter. She is a lifestyle vlogger and post videos that shower daily live and the things that she does. She is young, relatable, friendly, and makes you feel like her friend through the screen.
Danielle is an influencer and promotes products from clothing brands, grocery stores, and fitness centers. More specifically, she loves going to Soulcycle and shares that with her fans openly. Soulcycle noticed the attention they were getting on her behave and began to use her a brand influencer. Both Danielle and Soulcycle have the same target audience and so they both received a gain from their partnership. She soon became an instructor and works for the company as an influencers and a class instructor.
